Mr Murphy asked the Minister for Transport and Regional Services, upon notice, on 27 May 2002:

Further to his answer to question No. 13 (Hansard, 14 May 2002, p. 2024), does the Government intend to put any of the proceeds from the sale of Sydney Airport towards the construction of Sydney West Airport. If so, what percentage of the funds; if not, why not.

Mr Anderson (Minister for Transport and Regional Services) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

The proceeds of the sale of Sydney Airport will be used to retire Government debt. The Government has determined that this is the most responsible approach to fiscal management.
