Mr SWAN (3:56 PM) —My question without notice is directed to the Prime Minister. Prime Minister, do you recall your election promise of 24 October last year, when you said:

I re-state the assurances I have previously made: Nobody's benefit will be cut as a result of changes to the social security system.

Prime Minister, are you aware that the Treasurer would not repeat this assurance on Sunday, promising only this:

What we'll be doing is we'll be making sure that everybody who is disabled has access to income support.

Prime Minister, will you now repeat your commitment or is the Treasurer already treating you as a lame duck?

The SPEAKER —The Prime Minister may not be aware but because I had not called him I was about to ask the Prime Minister to respond to the question, ignoring what I thought was the unnecessary tail that the member for Lilley had placed on the question. For the Prime Minister to be recorded on Hansard he will need to now respond to the question.

Mr HOWARD (Prime Minister) —Come along tonight.
