asked the Minister for Health and Aged Care, upon notice, on 5 June 2001:
Will he have Fosamax® included on the list of drugs on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

—The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:
Fosamax® is currently listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) as an authority required benefit in the initial treatment for established osteoporosis in patients with fracture due to minimal trauma. The fracture must have been demonstrated radiologically and the date of x-ray must be included in the authority application.
Fosamax® is also listed on the PBS for continuing treatment for established osteoporosis in patients with fracture due to minimal trauma, where the patient has previously been issued with an authority prescription for this drug.
