Mr NAIRN (1:50 PM) —I have to confess to the parliament that I was locked in jail this morning. Fortunately it was not an ordinary jail; it was a jail provided by the Smith Family as part of the announcement of their winter appeal. I was required to raise enough money to get out of jail so that I could be here for 12.30—I made it by 15 seconds. People could actually pay to keep me in jail as well, but I reminded them that it would have cost them a lot more to keep me there, because the Smith Family provided black coffees and all those sorts of things, which are very expensive.

Fortunately I was able to raise nearly $1,000 in three-quarters of an hour to get my bail. I would like to thank a number of businesses, particularly in Queanbeyan, who came to the party to give me that bail, including John Holden at EziRid Pest Control; Daryl and Robyn Jenkins at Canberra Trophy Centre; Neville Marsh at Vintage Cellars; Matthew and Wendy Mason-Cox at Queanbeyan Eye Care Centre; Peter Moran, a blind manufacturer; Bruce Morrison at Morrison's Newsagency; Kevin and Carol O'Connor at O'Connor Menswear; Con Perry at Perry Electrical; Chas Sliwinski, an electrician; Geoff Thomas at Data Voice Communication; Dale Brown at O'Rourke Funerals; and Greg Dark at Merritts Transport. Chris Vardon, the mayor of the Eurobodalla Shire Council, also contributed. I told him at the weekend that I knew this was going to happen and he provided me with some money as well. I thank all of those people and also a number of my colleagues who have contributed—Margaret May, Tony Lawler and Garry Nehl. (Time expired)
