Mr GIBBONS (1:58 PM) —I am delighted to inform the House that on Australia Day this year Mr Danny Lumby of Heathcote was one of three Victorian ambulance officers awarded the inaugural and prestigious Ambulance Service Medal. This award reflects service over and above the call of duty. The ASM reflects an outstanding contribution to the Heathcote community and compliments Danny's award for bravery in 1979, when he rescued an injured miner from a mine-shaft. Danny Lumby has a fine record of community involvement in the Heathcote district, including many years as a board member and chairman of McIvor Health and Community Services. He was instrumental in saving this hospital from the savage cuts and closure of several small hospitals around Victoria during the years of the former Kennett state government. He also conducts first-aid courses for various individuals and groups when he is off duty. Danny Lumby is ably supported by his wife, Margaret, who in the early days voluntarily manned the ambulance radio whilst he was on duty. Danny and Margaret Lumby are fine examples of the spirit of the Heathcote community, and I know that all honourable members on both sides of the House will join with me in extending our heartiest congratulations to them on the occasion of Danny receiving this inaugural ASM.
