To the Honourable the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives assembled in Parliament:

The petition of certain citizens of Australia draws to the attention of the House, their support for the Private Members Bill `Corporate Code of Conduct Bill 2000', introduced to the Senate by Senator Bourne in September, 2000. The Bill is currently subject to a Parliamentary Joint Statutory Committee on Corporations and Securities Inquiry.

The issues being addressed in this Bill are also currently being addressed by the European Parliament, the United States Congress and the OECD. An Act such as this sends a signal to the global market that dealing with Australian companies means they are dealing with reputable companies that are concerned about human rights and environmental sustainability and can be relied upon to act in the interests of all stakeholders. This is essential for the long term health of Australian business interests.

Your petitioners therefore request the House support the passage of this Bill through Parliament.

by Mr Kelvin Thomson (from 14 citizens).
