Mr Latham
asked the Minister for Sport and Tourism, upon notice, on 9 October 2000:
(1) What is the expected increase in international tourism to Australia over the next ten years.
(2) Has her department provided advice on the capacity of Sydney Airport to cope with the projected increase; if so, what are the details.
Miss Jackie Kelly (Minister for Sport and Tourism and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Sydney 2000 Games)
—The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:
(1) International visitor arrivals to Australia are expected to increase at an average annual rate of 7.3 per cent, growing from 4,459,500 in 1999 to reach 8,409,000 in 2008.
(2) Yes. The advice is confidential as part of the Government's deliberations on this issue.
