Mr FITZGIBBON (2:41 PM) —My question is to the Prime Minister, and I refer him again to his broken election promise on small business red tape. Prime Minister, have you seen the following comments of Mr Rob Bastian, who is, of course, the chief executive officer of the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia? Mr Bastian said:

The BAS—

that is, the business activity statement—

takes a hell of a lot of work to finish.

He also said:

The paperwork burden is just getting worse.

Prime Minister, haven't you now broken your promise to cut small business red tape by half by the year 2000?

Mr HOWARD (Prime Minister) —I have already rejected that allegation, and I do so again.
