What progress has been made on implementing the recommendations of the inquiry by the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign. Affairs., Defence and Trade into the loss of HMAS Sydney.

—The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:
The Government Response to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Inquiry, conducted by the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, was tabled on 29 June 2000. The Royal Australian Navy is now in a position, and has commenced preliminary planning, to implement the recommendations for which it is responsible.
