Mr Murphy
asked the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 15 February 2000:
(1) What are the names of the two eminent and independent specialists he referred to in his letter to me (reference CRL 99/9723 and Min 195211) dated 25 November 1999 in respect to the medical capacity of former Senator Colston's ability to stand trial.
(2) Will he table the independent medical reports in Parliament.
Mr Williams (Attorney-General)
—The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:
(1) As members are aware Ministers are bound by the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 in relation to the affairs of an agency. Accordingly, I am unable to disclose personal information relating to the activities of the Director of Public Prosecutions unless one of the exceptions contained in the IPPs applies.
(2) I consider that, as the independent medical reports contain very sensitive and personal information, there is insufficient public interest to justify the release of the information.
