Western Australia: Drug Related Prosecutions

Mr MOSSFIELD
—Due to my interest in aviation matters, it will come as no surprise to this House that I rise to speak about the increased flight movements in the skies above Western Sydney. I refer to several sightings on Sunday, 6 June for the first time in my 30 years residence of this area of that great Australian aviation giant—the black cockatoo. While I am not a professional bird watcher, I have become aware over the past 10 to 15 years of an increase in the number of Australian native birds that have returned to this part of my electorate. I am advised by those who take a keen interest in these things that the variety of birds that have moved back to Blacktown are the rainbow lorikeet, the red wattle bird, the butcher bird, the Australian magpie, the eastern spinebill and the Australian ibis.
I would suggest that this increase in bird life will indicate that we are winning our battle to maintain a cleaner environment in Western Sydney. We must continue our battle to ensure that industry, residents, commercial developers and the general community work hand in hand to ensure that we balance society's needs for employment opportunities with a friendly environment. At the time of speaking I am unable to confirm that my sighting on 6 June was that of a yellow tailed black cockatoo or the glossy black cockatoo, but as further information becomes available I will keep this House informed.
