Mr LINDSAY
—The people of Magnetic Island for some 15 years now have
been wanting to see a safe harbour built on that particular island. All sorts of things have been thrown in the face of the construction of that harbour and we still do not have it. Only a couple of weeks ago the Minister for the Environment and Heritage gave the final environmental clearance, and it looked set that Magnetic Island was finally going to get a safe harbour.
However, over the weekend it was revealed that the state member for Townsville whose electorate includes Magnetic Island and who has been supporting that particular project in fact has been writing to the Premier of Queensland behind the scenes to oppose it. First of all Mike Reynolds was against it, then he was for it and now he is against it again. Is he the Premier's representative in North Queensland or is he a weathervane? If the member for Townsville chooses factional loyalty over community interest, he betrays the trust of voters and his responsibility to our city.
