Mr ENTSCH (9:27 PM) —Again, I appreciate the member for Fraser's contribution. But he is right in saying that the amendment is not acceptable to the government. The proposal by the member for Fraser for an independent inquiry for the TCF industry before 1 July 2003 we believe is not warranted. The government has already given an undertaking to carry out a review of the TCF industry in the context of further tariff reductions, and we certainly have the flexibility in the bill to do just that. This review is proposed to take place in 2005, at which stage the international regulatory climate for the TCF industry would become clearer following the abolition of all TCF quotas scheduled to occur by the end of 2004. However, depending on developments in the international trade in TCF, the government may, if necessary, consider the option of bringing forward the review to before that date.
