Ms KERNOT —My question is addressed to the Minister for Transport and Regional Services. Minister, did Mr Dick Smith, the Chairman of CASA, make you aware, prior to yesterday, of his allegations that Ansett sought to pressure CASA and BASI into a particular course of action on the class G airspace trial? If so, when did this happen? Is it your view that Ansett's expression of its concerns about the trial to BASI, to CASA or to your department was in any way improper? Will your inquiry into BASI cover these allegations?

Mr ANDERSON (Deputy Prime Minister) —The short answer is that a number of concerns have been raised by the Chairman of CASA and by the board. I do not have any intention of publicly canvassing the discussions which I have had with the Chairman of CASA or with the board of CASA—I see no reason to do so. The essential response to your question is this: the terms of the inquiry will allow those who have concerns along these lines to have them properly canvassed.
