Mr TONY SMITH
—Is the Minister representing the Minister for Social Security aware that the child support and social security systems make it possible for a custodial parent to receive, for example, between $50,000 and $100,000 a year in tax-free child support from his or her ex-partner as well as be eligible for the supporting parent benefit and other concessions? Doesn't this make a farce of not only social security but also
equity in the implementation of child support? When will the government bring fairness into the woeful child support system?
Mr RUDDOCK (Immigration and Multicultural Affairs)
—I thank the honourable member for his question. I will get a detailed answer, as I did before in relation to a similar matter, which will be available at the earliest opportunity.
Mr SPEAKER
—The member for Hunter. Sorry, the member for Paterson.
