Mr ANDREW (5:00 PM) —I rise largely in response to the remarks made by the Chief Opposition Whip, the member for Watson (Mr Leo McLeay), where he was critical of the member for Bowman (Mrs West) for her inability to be here and for the opportunity she otherwise would have had to participate in this debate. It has been all too easy for the Chief Opposition Whip, for reasons that remain a mystery to the parliament, to simply indicate unfounded criticism of what the government's role has been. The member for Bowman is here to promote what she believes is a motion worthy of the support of the House—

Mrs Crosio —Five minutes late.

Mr Leo McLeay —Throw her out.

Mr ANDREW —I am not sure what the member for Prospect (Mrs Crosio) was aiming to assist me with. I merely wanted to indicate that the member for Bowman is here to promote what she believes is a motion in the interests of the House. The interests of the House are not being advanced by the sort of interjection that we are getting currently from the Chief Opposition Whip and from the member for Prospect. It seems to me that the interests of both the House and the nation would be better advanced if the member for Bowman were given the opportunity to introduce her motion.
