Mr TONY SMITH (3:42 PM) —Mr Speaker, I wish to make a personal explanation.

Mr SPEAKER —Does the honourable member claim to have been misrepresented?

Mr TONY SMITH —Yes, I do, in three areas.

Mr SPEAKER —Please proceed.

Mr TONY SMITH —In yesterday's Sydney Morning Herald , it was suggested that I was going to lose preselection because of damaging reports of wife bashing. In relation to the question of losing preselection, that is totally incorrect.

A government member —Ha, ha!

Mr TONY SMITH —Somebody laughs over there. In relation to the question of wife bashing, I totally and utterly deny that defamatory statement. In relation to the other article by Greg Roberts, he said in yesterday's Sydney Morning Herald that the Australian Federal Police have interviewed one of my employees. That is totally incorrect.
