—I move:
That the bill be now read a second time.
This bill is part of a package of three bills. The purpose of this bill is to consolidate into one act the 17 national residue survey levy imposition acts that impose duties of excise. Consolidation will make the legislation more accessible to the public and provide for greater ease of administration.
The bill imposes levies that are duties of excise on 16 commodity groups to replace the relevant imposition acts repealed by the National Residue Survey Administration Amendment Bill 1998. I commend the bill to honourable members and present the explanatory memorandum.
