Mr KERR (10:59 PM) —Tonight we have had the honour of listening to one of the most constructive and respectful series of addresses on the adjournment debate that I have had the privilege to be present for. Although there are only a couple of minutes left, might I also join with the three speakers who have spoken in the condolences for former members.

In my case, I will make some particular remarks in respect of Roger Shipton. To be truthful, I was not even aware of the condolence motion in the House today, having arrived a few minutes late. Roger's death is a matter of regret because he was held in wide respect right across this House and outside it. Many on our side of politics regretted in some ways that he did not find ministerial office.

Mr SPEAKER —Order! It being 11 p.m., the debate is interrupted.

Mr Ruddock —Mr Speaker, I require that the debate be extended.

Mr SPEAKER —The debate may continue until 11.10 p.m.
