To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives assembled in Parliament:

The petition of certain citizens of Australia draws to the attention of the House the proposal to use the Holsworthy military range as a possible site for the building of Sydney's second international airport.

We believe that the site is unsuitable due to:

its proximity to large and rapidly growing residential areas;

the presence of unexploded ammunition on site;

the expense involved due to necessary landfill to make the site suitable for development;

the existent noise pollution in the area already suffered by residents which would only be increased under the new proposal.

the area's importance in maintaining high quality air and water for South Western Sydney;

the presence of rare and endangered species of flora and fauna and significant examples of Aboriginal and early European cultural heritage.

Your petitioners therefore pray that the House oppose the newly proposed site of Holsworthy for Sydney's second international airport.
