(Question No. 1383)

Mr Hollis asked the Minister for Transport and Regional Development, upon notice, on 27 February 1997:

(1) What was the total Commonwealth expenditure on rail in each year since 1986-87.

(2) What are the forward predictions of Commonwealth expenditure on rail to 1999-2000.

Mr Sharp —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(2) These are the estimates as at 14 April 1997. There is likely to be some variation due to the considerable uncertainty associated with cash flows related to the AN sales process, and developments in relation to a national rail infrastructure entity.
