Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Nehl) —Mr Speaker has received a letter from the honourable Leader of the Opposition (Mr Beazley) proposing that a definite matter of public importance be submitted to the House for discussion, namely:

The competence of the government which is presiding over rising unemployment, low growth, collapsing retirement benefits and a decline in Australia's standing in the region.

I call upon those members who approve of the proposed discussion to rise in their places.
