Mr BOB BALDWIN(3.25 p.m.)
—Mr Speaker, I wish to make a personal explanation.
Mr SPEAKER
—Does the member claim to have been misrepresented?
Mr BOB BALDWIN
—Yes, I do.
Mr SPEAKER
—Proceed.
Mr BOB BALDWIN
—Yesterday afternoon in question time, I asked a question of the Prime Minister about this government's stance on the timber industry in relation to Bob Carr's New South Wales Labor government's desertion of the people in the bush and on timber. Today the New South Wales Minister for Land and Water Conservation, Kimberley Maxwell Yeadon, put out a press release and went to the media claiming—
Opposition members interjecting—
Mr BOB BALDWIN
—Do you want to hear it, or what do you want to do? I know why you do not want to hear it.
Mr SPEAKER
—The member for Paterson will address his point.
Mr BOB BALDWIN
—Mr Yeadon claimed that I called on the federal government to withdraw the $60 million industry restructuring package. What I asked—and this supported the member for Page (Mr Causley)—was for pressure, via the $60 million, to be placed on the New South Wales Labor government so that we could continue to have a viable, sustainable timber industry.
Mr SPEAKER
—Resume your seat.
