Mr BEAZLEY (Leader of the Opposition)(3.28 p.m.) —As a question to the Leader of the House (Mr Reith), by way of a contribution to the discussion on the motion, is it his intention in excluding all of private members business from Monday and Tuesday to exclude the consideration of grievances? When I was Leader of the House, it was from time to time necessary to remove private members business to consider government matters. But we always left in what has been the time-honoured point in the week when backbench members on both sides of the House represent to the parliament in traditional form the grievances of the people in their electorates. That being the case, I would urge the Leader of the House to take the view that is at least one part of private members business that he will keep sacrosanct and ensure that it appears on Monday as it now normally does.
