To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled:

The petition of certain citizens of Australia draws to the attention of the House that:

(a)   the Sudanese Government's policies of genocide against Sudanese groups are repugnant, and

(b)   the sustained and systematic attempt to enforce Sharia law on non-Islamic citizens is condemned.

Your petitioners therefore pray that the House of Representatives will persuade the Government and the international community, including the UN Security Council to:

(i)   impose an arms embargo on the Government of Sudan

(ii)   establish air exclusion zones in Sudan

(iii)   support the peace initiatives of the Inter-Governmental Authority for Drought and Desertification

(iv)   engage in discussion with all officially banned democratic opposition groups

(v)   ensure the immediate access by the United Nations Operation, Life-Line Sudan and other aid agencies into all areas; and

(vi)   Provide teams to monitor human rights in the north, south and the Nuba Mountains of Sudan.
