Mr CAMPBELL
—Mr Speaker, I have been attempting for some time to address this question to the Prime Minister, but on reflection it is probably more appropriate that it go to you. I draw your attention to rumours circulating that it is the intention of the government to take away a staff member from all backbenchers. Because it is going to have a tremendous effect on the parliament, would you look into this and find out whether the allegation is true? Would you concede that, if it is true, while it may be superficially popular with the public, it will disadvantage the opposition much more than it will the government, and will certainly advantage the Prime Minister's office and executive vis a vis everyone else?
Mr SPEAKER
—The member will resume his seat. This is neither the proper place nor the forum for that sort of question. You may pursue your inquiries in the normal course of circumstances. I will not respond to speculation or rumours.
