To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives assembled in Parliament:
The petition of certain residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the following situation:
1.With the "aggregation" of regional commercial television services, Collinsville is now supposed to get three services—viz. Sunshine (7), WIN (9) and QTV (10). However, the Sunshine network is the only service that transmits to the Collinsville district.
2.Previously, residents of Collinsville received one commercial service which was a combination of the "best" programs from each channel e.g. cricket and rugby league from Channel 9, tennis from Channel 7, etc.
3.Subsequently, the quality of viewing available to Collinsville and surrounding districts has declined markedly since "aggregation".
4.Despite repeated approaches from various representatives of the community, the management of the WIN and QTV networks continually refuse to meet the conditions of their licence by failing to provide services to the area.
Your petitioners therefore pray that the House brings this matter to the attention of the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal for its immediate consideration so that the taxpayers of this area might receive the same standard of service as that enjoyed by the vast majority of Australians.
Furthermore, we request that if the management of the aforementioned networks persist in refusing to meet the conditions of their licence, that the licences shall be revoked.
