Mr McGAURAN(10.58)
—In reply to some of the issues raised by the honourable member for Calwell (Dr Theophanous), I should on behalf of the Opposition warn the people of Victoria that they are now saddled with a socialist left-dominated government. Those opposite should not try to pretend that it is not dominated by the socialist left. We on this side can count as accurately as those opposite.
A few leading lights of the socialist left faction in this place have been gloating about their victory in Victoria and in asides in corridors and in interjections across the floor of this chamber they are at pains to stress their strength, and indeed their control, of the Government down in Victoria. If only the true nature of a future Cain Government had been revealed to the voters of Victoria before they went to the poll on 1 October, the result would have been very different. But it was skilfully-a better word is probably `cunningly'-deliberately and dishonestly covered up to show the dominance of the left faction; so much so that it is the only State in Australia which has a Labor Government dominated in both Cabinet and caucus by the socialist left faction. It has waited a long time for such dominance and to be able to pull the strings of government, to make the Premier jump through the hoops at will. It will now call in the chips. It has been patient enough, and now is the time for reckoning.
Mr ACTING SPEAKER
