Mr HURFORD (Minister for Community Services)(4.26) —I move:

That the Bill be now read a second time.

This Bill seeks interim appropriations to meet expenditures by the parliamentary departments during the period 1 July 1987 to 30 November 1987. They total some $23.7m, which is $2.4m or about 11.2 per cent greater than the amount provided for in the Supply period 1986-87.

An increase is necessary to maintain the ongoing operations of the Parliament, to cover unavoidable price increases and to meet expected costs for the provision of information systems for the New Parliament House, namely systems for catering services and building operations and maintenance management. I commend this Bill to the House.

Debate (on motion by Mr Connolly) adjourned.
