Mr SINCLAIR —by leave-I am grateful to the Government for giving me this opportunity. I move:

(1) that this House extends its deepest sympathy to the families of the two servicemen, Leading Seaman Garry Macey and Corporal Jim Campbell, whose lives were tragically lost in the crash of the Wessex Helicopter in Bass Strait on 4 December 1983; and

(2) commends the crew of the Esso passenger helicopter for its efforts in rescuing six of those on board.

The two servicemen were trapped within the Wessex helicopter that sank in Bass Strait. I think all members of this place would wish to extend their sympathy to the families of the two servicemen who lost their lives and at the same time commend the crew of the Esso passenger helicopter which, being in the area at the time, was able to rescue the other six passengers who, although able to get out of the helicopter, were floating in the sea. Their lives would have been very much at risk had the Esso passenger helicopter not been in the area at that time. I commend the motion to the support of this House.
