Question No. 647

Mr Lloyd asked the Minister for Communications, upon notice, on 20 October 1983 :

(1) Is it a fact that official Telecom Australia postage paid envelopes, bearing a Victorian postmark, are being used to send to parliamentarians material critical of Telecom management and alleging shortfalls relating to money, staff ceilings, apprentices, career opportunities and undue pressure, and contain as a return address 'What about Telecom Workshops'.

(2) Will he investigate this misuse of Telecom time and facilities.

Mr Duffy —The answer to the honourable member's question, based on advice from the Australian Telecommunications Commission, is as follows:

(1) Telecom is unaware that material of the kind described has been sent to Parliamentarians. However, material of this kind, addressed to senior Telecom management, and in one case to a Victorian Commercial Broadcasting Service, has recently been received.

(2) Enquiries are at present being undertaken in an attempt to identify the person or persons responsible for distributing this literature.
