(Question No. 1830)


Mr Bungey asked the Minister for the Capital Territory, upon notice, on 9 April 1981:

(1) Did the 1977-78 Annual Report of his Department state on page 24 that the number of recreational visits to the forests was assessed as exceeding 350,000.

(2) Did that report also show at Table 11 that visitors to forests was 235,000.

(3) What is the reason for this apparent difference and the basis of assessment of the 2 different estimates.


Mr Hodgman —The answer to the honourable member's questions are as follows:

I am informed by my Department that-

(1) Yes.

(2) No, the figure given was 335,000.

(3) The figure stated on page 24 was an error, it should have read 335,000. The assessment is made using traffic counters located in each forest and by random surveys conducted during weekend patrols.
