EMPOWERING MULTICULTURAL COMMUNITIES IN FOWLER
The Chinese Buddhist community in Fowler will enjoy a new hall at the Australian Chinese Buddhist Society’s site in Bonnyrigg, thanks to the Rudd Labor Government’s Building Multicultural Communities Program.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Senator Kate Lundy and the Member for Fowler, Chris Hayes today announced that the Australian Chinese Buddhist Society will receive $150,000 to build a new hall in Bonnyrigg.
This grant forms part of the Rudd Labor Government’s $15 million Building Multicultural Communities Program which will strengthen social cohesion and promote inclusions in diverse communities.
“Australia’s diversity is one of our greatest strengths and that is why the Rudd Labor Government is proud to support organisations that promote cohesion and inclusiveness,” Minister Lundy said.
“Building Multicultural Communities Program assists organisations in multicultural communities such as Fowler to successfully promote diversity and harmony.”
“The Australian Chinese Buddhist Society has done a great job in connecting the large local Chinese Buddhist community with its traditional roots while greatly contribution to Australian society,” Mr Hayes said.
The Australian Chinese Buddhist Society will receive funding under Stream 2 of Building Multicultural Communities Program which provides grants of up to $150,000 to community organisations to enhance their existing facilities, to improve community access, and to promote and foster social inclusion.
Stream 1 of the Building Multicultural Communities Program provides grants between $1,000 and $10,000 to help organisations purchase a range of equipment, such as computers, furniture and sporting goods.
Funding for this project is already included in the budget.
