Milne must make Sheikh explain
MEDIA RELEASE SENATOR THE HON. ERIC ABETZ Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Shadow Minister for Employment & Workplace Relations
Liberal Senator for Tasmania
17th April 2013
Milne Must Make Sheikh Explain
“Greens Leader, Christine Milne, must exercise leadership and require her star Senate candidate, Simon Sheikh, to make a detailed public statement about his membership of the Labor Party,” Senator Abetz said today.
“Mr Sheikh has been floundering for days over whether he was a Labor Party member for one, two or more years.”
“First his website claimed he was a Labor member for only one year. Then yesterday it said two years. Today, NSW Labor Secretary, Sam Dastyari, states it was four years.”
“Mr Sheikh should abandon his unusual reticence to front a camera and detail when he joined, renewed and resigned his membership of the Labor Party.”
“If he doesn't, Senator Milne should make him,” Senator Abetz said.
“Mr Sheikh should also answer Mr Dastyari's allegation on Twitter yesterday that he bullied an ALP receptionist to extract a misleading email which he then gave to the Canberra Times to claim he had only been a member for two years.”
“This issue not only goes to the credibility of Simon Sheikh, it goes to the credibility of GetUp, which I have always said is a front for Labor and the Greens, Senator Abetz said.
