The Parliament and the role of the House / FUNCTIONS OF THE HOUSE

Examination of delegated legislation

Regulations and other forms of subor dinate legislation made by the Government pursuant to authority contained in an Act of the Parliament must be tabled in both Houses. A notice of motion for the disallowance of any such delegated legislation may be submitted to the House by any Member. Disallowance is then automatic after a certain period, unless the House determines otherwise. The Senate Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances plays a major role in overseeing delegated legislation. 1

See ‘Delegated legislation’ in Ch. on ‘Legislation’.
