Mr J H CATTS (COOK, NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Will he give an explanation of the reports published' some' little time ago in Australia, that in 1915 Mr.Fisher, then Prime Minister, agreed to Britain supporting Japanese annexation of the Marshall, Caroline, and Ladrone groups of islands (late German Possessions.) , at the Peace- Conference? 2.. Was the Prime Minister, as AttorneyGeneralin 1915, consulted about this matter? 3. Were other members of the 1915 Labour Government: consulted in regard to the. above; if so, who were they?

4.   Did the Prime Minister become aware, at the Peace Conference, that: Britain,France, amd Japan, had agreed long before, the Peace: Conference that. Japan's claims tothe Marshall, Caroline, and. Ladrone groups should be supported ?

5.   Will the Prime Minister explain the nature of the agreements referred to in. the preceding paragraph; and give the dates?


Mr HUGHES - I am not aware of the reports to which the honorable member refers.
