Mr ARCHIBALD - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follow : - 1 and 2. I am not aware of any such action.

3.   In a few instances the former owners of land compulsorily acquired in the Federal Territory have refused to accept the offers made by the Department. Such offers were based upon not less than two independent valuations, often on more, and the Minister, in the interest of the public of the whole Commonwealth, could not see his way to increase the offers to meet what are, apparently, extreme views held by the claimants as to value. The Acquisition Act provides that the way out of such a deadlock shall be appeal to the High Court to settle the value.
