Senator PANIZZA (12.21 a.m.) —I rise very briefly to speak to this matter. I was hesitant to rise because I thought Senator McKiernan was seeking the call. I totally reject Senator Chris Evans's assertion that the opposition is taking the high moral ground. We are taking the correct stance.

A reflection was made on the Attorney-General of Western Australia in Senator Bolkus's reply to Senator Chris Evans's question. I have a copy of Senator Evans's question here and I cannot read anything into it and I will not argue with what Senator Evans said. The integrity of Mrs Edwardes was questioned in regard to extraditing Dr Bradshaw. Senator Crichton-Browne certainly addressed that. Senator Bolkus graciously withdrew any imputation that might have been made. I thank him for that and congratulate him for doing it in the manner he did.

I thought the matter could have been settled very easily tonight without Senator Evans telling us that we are simply taking the moral high ground. He can read whatever he likes into the western women's matter. I refer honourable senators to what happened in the criminal courts of Western Australia. I will leave it at that.
