Senator Mulvihill
asked the Minister representing the Minister for Industrial Relations, upon notice, on 26 November 1980:
(1) What has been the annual amount of Australia's International Labour Organisation (ILO) affiliation fee for the years 1975 to 1979, inclusive.
(2) What has been the United States of America's affiliation fee for the same period.
(3) What Latin American governments had representation at the recent 66th Session of the International Labour Organisation and what were the names of the respective Latin American trade union confederates that were part of the delegations.
(4) Who constituted the 15 no votes and the 165 abstentions against the Jordan-sponsored ILO resolution on the Middle East crisis.
Senator Chaney
—The Minister for Industrial Relations has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:
(1) Australia's contribution to the ILO for the years 1975 to 1979 was as follows:
1975: US$798,880; 1976: US$1,272,344; 1977: US$1,137,928; 1978: US$1,314,259; 1979: US$1,845,462.
(2) The contribution of the United States of America for the same period was as follows:
1975: US$11,283,625; 1976: US$20,260,250; 1977: US$19,893,851; 1978: -; 1979: -.
As the United States ceased to be a Member of the Organisation on 6 November 1977, the assessment for the period 6 November to 31 December 1977 ($3,052,207) was cancelled by the ILO. No further payments were required of the United States until it resumed membership of the ILO on 18 February 1980.
(3) The following Latin American countries were represented at the 66th (June 1980) Session of the International Labour Conference:
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The ILO's official list of delegations for the 66th (June 1980) Session of the International Labour Conference sets out the following details of the trade union affiliations of the worker representatives on the delegations of the abovementioned countries. These were given in the language used for official correspondence between the ILO and the country in question.
