Senator CRANE —by leave—I present to the Senate the following petition, from 1,092 citizens, which is not in conformity with the standing orders as it is not in the correct form:

To the Honourable President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled.

The Petition of the undersigned shows:

There is general dissatisfaction with the effectiveness of the legislation and industrial award provisions for occupational superannuation,

and

We the undersigned therefore respectfully request the Parliament of Australia to amend the Superannuation Guarantee Charge Legislation so as to place the responsibility for providing superannuated retirement benefits onto the person who will eventually receive the retirement benefit.

and further

We call upon the Parliament to convene as a matter of urgency a National Summit involving representatives from Trade Unions, Employer Organisations and State and Federal Parliament to develop a national strategy for an equitable mechanism to provide retirees with an adequate retirement income.

And your Petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
